Encourage Yourself: How to Speak Life and Walk In It When No One Else Is Cheering

Hey y’all! I’m Coach Leah, and I want to welcome you to this space where we talk all things healing, resilience, and real-life faith. This week on the Marriage, Motherhood & PTSD podcast, we dove into a powerful episode called Encourage Yourself: How to Speak Life and Walk in It When No One Else Is Cheering. And let me tell you—it’s a word we ALL need in this season.

Let’s be real for a second.

There will be times in your life when the applause stops. When the encouragement is silent. When the weight you’re carrying feels invisible to everyone else. And in those moments, Sis—you’re gonna have to be your own cheerleader. You’ve got to learn how to speak life to yourself, even when no one else does.

The Power of Self-Talk

This isn’t about fluffy affirmations or pretending everything is fine. We’re talking about survival-level, Holy Spirit-led declarations that shift your mindset and anchor your soul. The words you speak to yourself matter. They shape your beliefs. And your beliefs? They shape your life.

Proverbs 18:21 says, “Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” That includes the tongue inside your own head.

So I ask you: What have you been saying about yourself lately?

Your Mindset and Your Mouth Are Connected

You can’t think right if you talk wrong. And you can’t live differently if your mind is still stuck in a loop of fear, shame, or defeat. That’s why Romans 12:2 tells us to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Change your words—change your world.

In this episode, I challenged listeners to confront those old thought patterns and to break up with the lies that have kept them bound for far too long.

Soul Care Ain’t Just Spa Days

We also got into what real soul care looks like—and no, it’s not just bubble baths and candles (though those are nice too!). Soul care is sitting with your emotions. It’s acknowledging the pain. It’s journaling the truth. It’s letting God into the broken spaces and allowing Him to rewrite your story.

Journaling, Forgiveness & Becoming Your Own Advocate

We talked about forgiveness—of others, of ourselves, and walking in divine forgiveness. We talked about journaling your emotions and learning to speak truth even before you feel it.

And most importantly, we talked about becoming your own best friend. Being your own safe space. Learning how to advocate for YOU.

Sometimes the biggest breakthrough happens not when someone else affirms you—but when you finally believe what God has been saying about you all along.

Tools to Shift the Atmosphere

Inside the episode, I also shared tools to help redirect negative energy:

  • Change your environment (play worship, shift your scenery)
  • Breathe and ground yourself
  • Move your body (yes, even a walk counts!)
  • Journal and release those hidden thoughts
  • Speak kindly to yourself
  • Get in community (hello, The Locker Room! 👏🏾)
